Exclusive to the "Classico" Zone

The entire Pieropan vineyard is located in the area Soave ClassicoUnlike the plains (where yields are high and soils are fertile), the Classico zone is located on steep hills.

  • Altitude: The vineyards are located between 100 and 500 meters altitude.

  • THE climat : The altitude allows for a significant temperature range (cool nights, sunny days), which is crucial for fixing the aromas and maintaining the acidity of the grapes.

A Unique Duality of Terroirs

Pieropan's strength lies in owning plots on both types of soil that define Soave, creating two radically different styles of wine:

  • Volcanic Soils (Calvarino side): Composed of black basalt and tuffs. They produce wines that are taut, mineral, saline and "straight-headed".

  • Limestone Soils (La Rocca side): Composed of limestone scree and clay, they bring opulence, richness, exotic notes and an almost "Burgundian" structure.

Indigenous Grape Varieties

THE domaine devotes a cult to local grape varieties, refusing the introduction of international grape varieties (such as Chardonnay):

  • La Garganega: The king of grape varieties. It brings structure, notes of white flowers and that characteristic bitter almond finish.

  • Trebbiano di Soave: Less common, it is used as a supplement (particularly in the Calvarino) for its intense fragrance and acidic vivacity.

Pioneering and Organic Viticulture

  • Organic Certification: Pieropan was one of the first large estates in the region to convert entirely to organic farming.

  • Manual labor: Due to the steep slopes (some plots are veritable walls), mechanization is impossible. Everything is done by hand, from pruning to harvesting.

  • The new cellar (Leonildo Pieropan): Recently inaugurated, it is fully integrated under the hill so as not to alter the landscape and uses gravity to handle the grapes, thus avoiding brutal pumping that could oxidize the musts.

The Pieropan family was the first, in the 1970s, to put the name of a "cru" (a specific vineyard) on a Soave label (the Calvarino in 1971), thus treating their plots with the same respect as the largest estates of the Côte d'Or.
