The vineyard comprises around thirty plots, well grouped and almost contiguous. The plots are mostly located in the commune of Preignac (except for a small 0.71 ha plot in the commune of Barsac, which was originally part of Château Saint-Robert). The vineyard lies largely on a sandy-gravelly plateau, with clay-gravelly hillocks in places, particularly well-suited to the production of great wines. The terroir, typical of the appellation, is located at the foot of the middle terrace of the Sauternes region, the upper part of which is occupied by Château Suduiraut. Most of the vineyard is located on a large plot of land (lieu-dit La Montagne-Ouest), crossed from East to West by a municipal road, as well as on a southern plot (localities known as Le Rastot and Le Graveron). Two small vineyards within Bastor-Lamontagne, planted exclusively with Sémillon, produce wines that have retained the designation of lieu-dit where the plots are located: Château du Haut-Pick (nearly 9 ha, having belonged to the Larrieu family) and the Cru Bordenave (nearly 3 ha).

Owner and history

Château Bastor Lamontagne, a member of the Union des Grands Crus, produces a modern, innovative, and elegant Sauternes. Having converted to organic farming in 2016, we are committed to respecting the environment and our terroir. Since November 2018: the Helfrich family has become the owner of château Bastor-Lamontagne.

Vinification and aging

Winemaking at Château Bastor Lamontagne is a meticulous art that begins with the hand-harvesting of grapes, selected by hand to retain only the very best. After gentle pressing, the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks, preserving the freshness and purity of the aromas. Aging takes place in oak barrels, some of which are new, for 12 to 18 months. This process enriches the wine with woody nuances while respecting the expression of the terroir. Each step is carried out with care and passion, ensuring that every bottle reflects the authenticity and richness of the wine. Château Bastor Lamontagne.
