The expertise of Domaine Daniel Rion
A typical Burgundian vineyard
The 18 hectares ofDomaine Daniel RionThe vineyards are divided between white and red grape varieties. There are 14 hectares of red vines planted entirely with Pinot Noir and 4 hectares of white vines planted with 65% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Blanc, and 5% Aligoté. The age of the vines varies considerably, ranging from 25 to 65 years old. The vines are selected for the quality of their fruit, with preference given to small, thick-skinned berries, which guarantee a high-quality, complex wine with delicate tannins. The main objective of the owners of Domaine Daniel Rion is to adapt the vine to its environment on thelong termbut also to adapt the vine to its location, in order to obtain grapes in the best possible health. To continue in this same vein, the harvest is done entirely by hand and the bunches are picked whole to preserve the integrity of the berries and their aromatic potential. This also allows for sorting the grapes directly in the vineyard, keeping only those that are healthy and ripe. Finally, the decision was made to opt for low yields, which offers a greatquality of the grapes, naturally concentrated and balanced once they have reached proper maturity.
The classic style embraced by Domaine Daniel Rion
The choice of traditional viticulture
THEDomaine Daniel Rionopted for aviticulture of the most traditional kindin order torespect the local areaon which its vineyard extends. Thus, no chemical inputs are used in the vineyard; fertilizer is produced naturally by the estate itself. The objective is clearly to have no negative impact on the fauna, flora, soil, or water in order to obtain the best possible expression of the terroir. Vinification and aging are also traditional, although it is possible to monitor and intervene in case of problems. All these precautions result in wines with a classic style, beautiful structure, lovely fruit, and a magnificent velvety texture. Some cuvées also display a beautiful silkiness and some smoky notes. Domaine Daniel Rion produces a very large number of cuvées each vintage; therefore, variety is very important in order to satisfy all tastes.
