History of the Estate Château Quinault L'Enclos

the story of Château Quinault L'Enclos

          The history of the estate

A HISTORY FORGED BY MANY OWNERS

The vineyards of Libourne have been planted since Gallo-Roman times. The official existence of the château, however, is more disputed. Indeed, while its name is attributed to the poetPhilippe Quinault(17th), the documents that attest to the existence of the building date from the 19th century.

Numerous families have occupied the castle in turn; renovations, the construction of vats and cellars are ongoing. The castle is part of the heritage ofAlain Reynaudin 1997. In 2008Bernard Arnault(LVMH) and theBaron Albert Frère(major financier) acquire the estate. LVMH later absorbs the entire property.

The transition to organic viticulture began in 2009. Certification was awarded in 2012.Château Quinault l'Enclos.

          The Quinault Terroir The Enclosure

A UNIQUE TERROIR FOR A SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU

Urban vineyards are becoming increasingly rare. The great characteristic ofChâteau Quinault l'EnclosIts location in the heart of the city of Libourne is remarkable. The 20-hectare vineyard is surrounded by walls. The Merlot (85%), Cabernet Franc (12%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) vines are thus protected from the prying eyes of curious wine enthusiasts.

Taking advantage of themicroclimateThanks to the Dordogne River, the vineyard stretches across the crest of a gravelly hill. This gravelly terroir has a subsoil of sandy clay. The vines are planted on gentle slopes, which allow for excellent drainage. This unique location produces a wine of exceptional quality.

Cabernet Sauvignon was introduced to the vineyard by the team at Château Cheval Blanc, who manage the estate. This initiative allows for the expression of floral aromas in the glass. As a result, the wine is fuller and more expressive than before. The new owners are committed to enhancing each vintage, all of which are classified.Saint Emilion Grand Cru.
