Location and Geography

THE domaine is rooted in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, with plots of land spread across the most prestigious villages:

• Vosne-Romanée : The nerve center, where their most famous Premier Crus are located.

• Nuits-Saint-Georges : Plots that provide a more structured framework.

• Chambolle-Musigny : For elegance and floral delicacy.

• Hautes-Côtes de Nuits: Vines located at high altitudes (such as la cuvée At the Thatched Roofs), which benefit from global warming to offer fresh and vibrant wines.

A "Microscopic" vineyard

Cathiard's renown also stems from the rarity of its wines. domaine only has about 5 hectares of vines. This small size allows Sébastien Cathiard to have a millimeter-perfect knowledge of each row of vines.

Cultural Philosophy

Sébastien Cathiard succeeded his father Sylvain with a very clear vision: It all starts in the vineyard.

• Soil preparation: Tillage is preferred to force the roots to draw from the deep limestone. No herbicides are used.

• Yield control: THE domaine practices severe bud thinning and, if necessary, green harvesting to concentrate aromas and sugars in the remaining bunches.

• Hand-harvested grapes: The sorting process is drastic. Only perfectly ripe and healthy grapes enter the cellar.

The Cathiard vineyard is known for producing wines of a absolute fruit purityThe wines are traditionally aged in oak barrels (often 100% new oak for the Premier and Grand Cru wines), but the winemaking is so skillful that the wood never masks the terroir's identity.
