The Pomerol vineyards have their origins in Roman times and have continued to expand ever since. Merlot is the primary grape variety cultivated here, complemented by Cabernet Franc , Cabernet Sauvignon , and Malbec . A unique feature of the region is the absence of an official classification system. The appellation's renown is due, in part, to the legendary Petrus .
Château l'Evangile
Château l'Evangile is part of the Barons de Rothschild estates. It is considered a Premier Cru of Pomerol , and its quality has been steadily improving for the past 15 years. Two red wines are produced there.
Château l'Evangile is the flagship wine, exuding aromas of small black fruits and sometimes toast or mocha. The tannins are elegant. Bottles can be cellared for about fifteen years. Blason de l'Evangile is the second wine, produced since the 1990s. It undergoes slightly shorter aging and contains a higher proportion of Cabernet Franc. It is a fruity wine, with less aging potential than its older sibling.
Whether it's the large or small bottle, it's recommended to decant Château l'Evangile wines one to two hours before tasting. They pair very well with grilled meat, beef, or duck.
Château La Conseillante
Château La Conseillante belongs to the Nicolas family, which is why the label features a coat of arms with the letters "LN," for Louis Nicolas. Sustainable farming practices are employed, and the wine is vinified plot by plot. The bottles are recognizable by their purple capsule and the label with its scalloped edges and silver border.
Château La Conseillante produces two red wines. The first, as is customary, bears the name of the Château. It is made from vines over 30 years old. The second wine, Duo de Conseillante , has been produced since 2007 and comes from younger vines.
These wines can be kept for about fifteen years and are characterized by their aromatic richness, elegance and power.
Château Clinet
Château Clinet was acquired by the Laborde family in 1998 and is currently managed by Ronan Laborde . The château produces four wines: three reds and one white.
Château Clinet is a grand red wine, made from the finest gravelly plots. The grapes are harvested when overripe and then aged in oak barrels. The round palate expresses red and black fruits and truffles. The bottles can be cellared for about fifteen years.
La Fleur de Clinet is the château's second wine, created in 2006. It has a beautiful ruby color, with aromas of wild berries and small black fruits. On the palate, it is lively and fruity. The grapes used come not only from Château Clinet, but also from carefully selected partner winegrowers.
Finally, Ronan by Clinet is even more recent and is available in white and red, under the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Blanc appellations. The Ronan by Clinet red is fruity and warm, with a palate of small red berries. It is 100% Merlot and made from selected grapes sourced from several Bordeaux appellations.
Ronan by Clinet white wine is made from Sémillon and Sauvignon grapes grown by Château Clinet . On the nose, it reveals citrus and white-fleshed fruit aromas. These citrus notes reappear on the palate. It pairs beautifully with fish or poultry.
