History of the Estate Château Clerc Milon

the story of Château Clerc Milon

            The Story of Clerc Milon

Château classified as a Cru Classé

In the 18th century, the château belonged to the Lafite seigneury. During the French Revolution, it was finally sold as national property. The Clerc family then acquired it and gave it their name. By combining this name with that of Milon, the hamlet ofPauillacwhere the estate is located, the Château therefore becomesClerc-MilonHe will then attain the rank ofFifth Growthin the Grand Classification of 1855. From then on, this classification attested to its belonging to the elite of the Médoc châteaux. However, by 1970, it was virtually abandoned.Baron Philippe de RothschildHe then decided to buy it back. He set himself a challenge: to restore its Cru Classé status. To achieve this, he demonstrated a personal and unwavering commitment to the estate. He made a number of crucial decisions for the vineyard, some of which would even revolutionize the world of wine.

            Technique, aesthetics and tradition

Under the impetus ofBaroness Philippine, significant work is being carried out atClerc-Milon CastleThe château is a rectangular building whose shape resembles that of a temple. A beautiful terrace surrounds the building, opening onto the vineyard. Construction began in 2007, overseen by two project managers. The newly renovated complex, covering nearly 3,600 square meters, was inaugurated in 2011. It now houses a fully gravity-flow winery and a new cellar with semi-underground barrels. A wine cellar, as well as reception and tasting rooms, have also been added. The choice of materials evokes the world of wine: stone, glass, and wood. 300 square meters of photovoltaic panels have also been installed. These new constructions reflect the family values. At the crossroads of technical and aesthetic innovation, respect for tradition remains paramount.
