The Petrus vineyard is situated on a privileged terroir, characterized by exceptional clay-gravel soil. This type of soil retains moisture, thus promoting optimal grape ripening. The region's temperate oceanic climate allows for perfectly ripe fruit, while preserving a beautiful acidity. The vines, averaging 40 years old, benefit from ideal sun exposure, which contributes to the aromatic concentration of the grapes. Precise vineyard management, combined with respectful viticultural practices, ensures the exceptional quality of the grapes used in the production of Petrus wines.

Owner and history

The Petrus estate is currently owned by the Moueix family, who played a key role in establishing the renown of this exceptional wine. Jean-Pierre Moueix, an iconic figure in Bordeaux winemaking, helped to make Petrus known beyond the borders of France. Today, his son, Christian Moueix, continues this tradition of excellence with passion and dedication. The Moueix family is committed to maintaining the quality and authenticity of Petrus, respecting the values that have made this legendary estate so successful. Their artisanal approach and love of the terroir are reflected in every bottle of Petrus.

Vinification and aging

The winemaking process for Petrus is carried out with meticulous care. The grapes are carefully selected by hand, then destemmed before being placed in vats. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks, allowing for precise temperature control and the delicate extraction of aromas and tannins. After fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels, some of which are new, for approximately 18 months. This careful aging process imparts complexity and structure to the wine. Every step of the winemaking process is designed to reveal the very best of this great Pomerol terroir.
