The story of theFayolle familybegins in theRhône Valleytwo centuries ago. Since then, they havesix generationswhich take place around the vineyard. It was in 1814 thatFortuné and Marie Fayollesettle inGervans, on the left bank of the Rhône. They practice agricultural and winemaking activities without bottling the grapes produced. From this date onward, and through successive inheritances, thefamily vineyardcontinues to expand on theRhône hillsides.

WhenJules and Marie-Thérèse FayolleTaking over the vineyards in 1856, they decided to market their production themselves. It was therefore in the mid-19th century that the family produced its first bottles. In 1913, the estate began commercial activity with restaurants and exported to several countries around the world.

Today is thesixth generation, in the person ofLaurent Fayolleand his sisterCeline Nodin, who is in charge of the vineyards. Real ambitions are attached to the operation, including a planned transition to organic farming in 2021.

    HIGH-QUALITY WINES

It is south of theNorthern Rhône Valleywhere the vineyard ofFayolle estateOn theHermitage and Crozes-Hermitage AOCs, THE10 hectares of vineyardsThey extend across three villages. The reputation for the quality of these vineyards and the meticulous work of the winemakers quickly spread. The river wine route and trade in antiquity played a favorable role in the renown of these hillside vineyards.

The Syrah (100%), Marsanne (90%), and Roussanne (10%) grape varieties are planted on the slopes of Gervans, La Roche de Glun, and Crozes-Hermitage. The soil, composed of Alpine silt, and the Mediterranean influences give theFayolle estateunique characteristics.

The vines, around forty years old, are the result of careful massal selection, guaranteeing quality. The winemakers are committed to low yields in order to focus on berries that most faithfully express all the characteristics of theterroir.

    RESPECT FOR TRADITIONS

For over two centuries theFayolle familystrives to reveal all the specific characteristics of the terroir of theRhône ValleyThe viticultural methods employed by the winegrowers are steeped in the greatest traditions.

The soil is maintained using animal traction, no chemical inputs are used, and harvesting is done by hand. To control yields and ensure the quality of all the harvested berries, green harvesting and plot-by-plot selection are carried out. The grapes are sorted and destemmed before vinification.

Laurent and Céline FayolleThey vinify their single red grape variety and their two white grape varieties using traditional methods. The grapes are placed in stainless steel and wooden vats, then aged in barrels and demi-muids. The result is a fruity, straightforward, and full-bodied wine.

These traditional methods, strictly adhered to by the estate, reflect their ambition to obtain certification inorganic for 2021This would represent a further step for the family, which prides itself on respecting the terroir in every stage of the production of these highly precise wines.
